7 miles!

Saturday we met as a team and ran 7 miles around downtown and the Pearl district. The weather was perfect: mid 70s and mostly sunny! We had a place to stop after four miles and get water, which helped a lot. I'm going to start having to figure out how I will carry water or get water when I go on those longer runs.

On a another note, the ball of my left foot and toes fell asleep around mile three. I knew I had to get new shoes because mine are worn out, but that means I'm really going to have to get new shoes before I run too much more. Sleeping feet are a common sign of bad shoes. It's amazing how quickly shoes wear out, even though I only use them an hour a day!

This week we are taking a 'rest' week and running just five miles. They plan these weeks in so our bodies can rest up and recover a little bit after running so much. I am very thankful for the rest week because I went bowling yesterday on my tired legs and now one of the muscles on the back of my leg is reeeeally sore!! I've been icing it and taking it easy today....I'm going for a walk tonight to try to stretch it out a little bit and be back to running tomorrow.

My fundraising is coming along OK. I am pretty focused on getting a job right now, so my fundraising hasn't been completely active. It will come though!

Busy!

I had a crazy busy weekend, and my regular runs had to unfortunately be put on hold. :( My brother got married (!!) in Marysville at a beautiful beach wedding on Saturday. I headed up there Thursday night and was occupied with wedding tasks and chores and dinners and all kinds of things that did not aid my training efforts! I got back last night around 8pm and went for a 3.3 mile run around 9:30pm. Luckily, my body felt great and it was good to run again.

I went to my first track night last Wednesday where we did some exercises and a workout on the track. We ran about three miles around the track at different levels of intensity (slower and faster paces), and did some stretching and cool-down stuff. The workout was pretty good and something I could definitely do again on my own at the track near my house.

This Saturday is our 7-mile run and we are meeting downtown, running a course the coaches have plotted for us. Should be fun to see some new sights and gain some more mileage!

Also, watch out for me to post a fundraising night in the future. I think I'm going to ask a restaurant in the area to donate a percentage of its proceeds for one evening to my training. If you have any ideas or resources, I am accepting those as well!

Thank you!

So far, so good

I decided to create a blog to track my marathon training because it is easier to update. This will also allow me to post more often so you can learn all about my runs and training!

Last week I was in Spokane, WA at our family's lake cabin where there is a 4-mile scenic loop that I did some running on. I ran my longest run yet....5.3 miles on Friday! I'm finding that the first two miles are TERRIBLE because it is really hard to get going. After the 5.3 miles, I stopped and had a gatorade and some snacks with my mom and aunt before walking another mile home (in the rain). I've been pretty lucky with the weather so far. The extreme heat we had two weeks ago was very miserable for exercising and kept me inside most of the time.

I will go to track night this Wednesday with Team In Training (TNT) where they will show me some new moves! Actually, they will help me make my stride more efficient and calculate how long the marathon should take me (yikes!). Looking forward to both those things.

I want to send a huge THANK YOU!!! to those of you who have contributed to my fundraising and my training so far! Even words of encouragement help me endure the first two miles I run every day. :)
